Went there Dec. 30th, ordered the baby back ribs with cornbread and reuban wrap with sweet potato fries. I was at first skeptical ordering ribs at a place that did not seem to have a smoker. When I was told I they used hickory chips in the their smoker and the ribs were smoked like authentic barbecue should be, it caught my attention. When the food came, I was pleasantly surprised. They were fall off the bone awesome. Good smoke, and a great bbq sauce to go alone with it. The cornbread was awesome too. My girl friend ordered the reuban as a wrap, which was customized by the kitchen staff. Awesome to note that a kitchen is willing to customize orders for patrons. The sweet potato fries were crisp, and hearty, with a just enough coarse salt. Finally the dessert. We ordered apple raisin bread pudding. It was a bowl full of goodness. Slightly sweet, with apples, jumbo raisins, and a touch of cinnamon. Coffee for one served in an elegant French press was a great compliment to this dessert. All in all, they have a special thing going on here. Great local produce and meats from local sources. A good beer selection from local breweries as well. I hope they can keep it going. We will be back for sure!!!!

Excellent experience. My wife had a brandy Old Fashioned and enchiladas, I had a Manhattan and a Public Burger (previous Yelpers having extolled their praises). Excellent food and drinks all around.

Great service, great food, great drinks, great atmosphere. Next time I'm out in Spring Green I'll definitely return.

We just had a wonderful dinner at Freddy Valentines. The atmosphere was charming, the staff was stellar. You could tell they love the place! On the advice of another reviewer, I ordered the grilled cheese, OMG! It was in a class of its own, so good it is worth the extra time in the gym! We will return!

Great service and America style food!

If you're in Spring Green and hungry, this place is a must. The location (in an old bank building) is charming, the staff was great and the food is excellent. Fresh and reasonably priced. If this place was in my Chicago nieghborhood, I'd be a regular!

We were visiting the Spring Green area and stopped in at Freddy Valentine's. Everything I read said that their Shepards Pie was the thing to order. It was a large meal, lots of mushrooms, gravy, and mashed potatoes on top & 2 pieces of toast. However I did not find any Beef in it....there should have been. I was extremely disappointed. I ate about half of it and could not eat anymore mushrooms. The waitress asked what was wrong and when I said there was no meat she just asked if I didn't like mushrooms? My response was not my entire dinner. If you eat here try something else. The dinner salad was very tasty and a good size. A friend had the BBQ beef dinner and Had a big pile of Beef. We figured he had my beef too. The waitress did discount my Shepards pie 20%, but that still made it a $14 or $15 pile of mushrooms.

Party of 6 for dinner after APT show about 6:30 pm on Saturday night. It was very busy but they did a great job getting us seated earlier than projected. Plus there are some fun little shops that you could poke your head into while waiting. Also have a nice bar area with a fantastic selection of drinks. Lots of great local brews on tap and a good cocktail drink menu. The blueberry sangria was excellent! Tried the trout dip and nachos with chorizo for appetizers. Smoked trout dip was excellent but the nachos were just ok. Son had the black bean burger and loved it! Other highlights were the ribs and the Shepherd's Pie although all of our food was great. Overall a great night. Certainly "big city" quality dining experience in Spring Green! Will definitely be back again!!

We spent the night in Spring Green after visiting Taliesen. All the locals we asked for dinning recommendations said Freddy V's, but it being in a small town with limited choices, I didn't have high hopes. I was wrong! The food and service were great! They pride themselves in local ingredients and it showed. I had a fabulous beef stew made with local beer, beef, and veggies. Incredibly savory broth and very tender beef and veggies. It was the nights special so you won't find it on the regular menu. Peg had the Shepard's Pie from the menu. It was a classic version and very tasty. They have a great beer menu but if you go late in the tourist season like we did, you will find them thinning the herd. Well worth the stop!
(5)Jessica B.
Love this place. I sat at the bar and had a margarita.. The owners are very friendly.. One of the best I've had in a while. I ordered the smoked trout dip and their seasonal salad with chicken. Everything was yummy. This place was an old bank, and you can have a private party in the old bank vault. I will back many times!

I love this place. It's worth a destination drive to Spring Green. I take all the scenic back roads from Madison...Mt. Horeb, Blue Mounds, Barneveld, Hyde, and into Spring Green off of County T. Everything is great...I had a massive grilled cheese sandwich with ham my first trip, and opted for an appetizer sampler the second time. Wings, crab cakes, and the soup of the day. Dave the owner is super friendly and so is his cute wife. It tends to get busy when there is an APT performance going on, but wait if you have to. For the complainers about no dessert...they do that to turn tables and serve food. Stop at Culver's on the way home if you must.
(5)Frank A.
Food is plentiful and very good. Homemade soups and dishes. It's in the old bank building. Then sign on there is small so look for it. Really cool how they reused a old bank. Close to the house on the rock

All we can say is WOW!! What an amazing find. We thank yelp for the reviews that led us here. We had the coconut shrimp soup with so many large shrimp we could have made a meal just in the soup. The BBQ Ribs, and fish and chips, both excellent! Don't miss this great little restaurant in a renovated bank building... Puts our local places in chicago to shame! Really!!!
(5)Paul S.
Super! Great! Awesome!!! Very nicely prepared and fresh. The fries, both sweet potato and traditional, were fresh, not greasy and mmmmmm good!

As far as restaurants in Spring Green goes, this is fantastic. I wasn't expecting the food to be this innovative in such a small town. And really, it isn't anything groundbreaking, but it sure is delicious. It's pretty classic pub fare with some nice modern touches. Came here for dinner before a show at the American Player's Theater. The place was busy, we got the last open table in the restaurant. The building is beautiful, in an old bank, I particularly enjoyed the tiled floors in the bar area. Even with the restaurant being packed, the kitchen moved quickly. I had the "Mad Fashion" which is essentially an old fashioned, with rum instead of brandy. Was a welcome twist on a Wisconsin classic. As an appetizer, we got the sweet potato fries. They were crisp and light, with sea salt. Served with a garlic aioli that was enjoyable. If I was to provide one criticism of this place, it would be that the selection of apps should be expanded. There were only about 6 choices. For the entree, I had the Deuces burger. It was a 1/2lb beef patty with smoked brisket and smoked cheese (Gouda, I believe?) topped with fresh spring greens. The burger was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed the brisket had a flavor. This probably ranks among the top 10 burgers I've had in my life. My mom had the steak tacos which were delicious as well. Strip steak dusted with chili, served with a chipotle aioli and citrus slaw. There was pico de gallo on it as well, but they could have thrown a little bit more on the taco. I really wasn't expecting much with this restaurant. But, I was pleasantly surprised.

Great place on all counts. We enjoyed the space, with a table overlooking the kitchen (behind what was once the exterior windows of the bank). Service was friendly and efficient. Our server was knowledgeable about the dinner and bar menus. Our food arrived impressively quick! Because we had an open view of the kitchen, we could see every delicious-looking menu item being plated. After we tasted our burgers, we wanted to air high five the cooks, but they were dutifully at their work. ;) The Public House burger (with bacon & white cheddar) was so good I didn't need to add any condiments- even after ordering it without the horseradish sauce listed in the description. My top shelf margarita was good as well. My husband got an old-fashioned and the Double Deuce burger, medium-rare, topped with a hearty portion of deliciously smoked & lightly sauced bbq brisket. He loved it. He actually said "Thank you for bringing me here" with a satisfied smile. The hand cut fries were fresh and crisp, and the side salad was a nice mix of fresh greens. There is a small comfortable looking patio, which we would enjoy if we get to come back in the summer months.

It was hard to get a good recommendation for dinner restaurants in iowa County. When I go to Wisconsin, its because I need a reprieve from Mexican food. Every couple weeks, I escape Chicago to America's dairyland for mouthfuls of butter and cow. Freddy Valentine's had a high aggregate rating, and what I read and saw of the restaurant on the internet spoke of good choices. The menu highlights local ingredients, vegetables in season and beef from nearby. The beer list has many WIsconsin brews unavailable in Chicago. When we arrived in Spring Green I was struck by the beauty of the town. We had just driven through rolling farmland past the House on the Rock, and here was a quaint downtown beside the Wisconsin River. I was very hungry. My girlfriend got the summer burger, with the grass fed beef, medium rare. There were some excellent touches to that thing, on a pretzel bun. The beef was grilled perfectly and the juicy, earthy flavor spoke to the quality of the cow. I ate my girlfriend's burger. I also ate my entree, grilled chicken with Southeast Asian essence combined with summer vegetables. The service was very good, and as the restaurant has taken over a bank building, the main dining room's window look onto the kitchen's pass.

We had a very satisfying dinner at Freddy Valentines in Spring Green after attending a play at American Players Theatre. The restaurant is in an old bank in downtown. There was a wait and the bar was busy, we waited very comfortably on the patio with a a bottle of Wollersheim winery Prairie Fume. Dinner was very good and the service attentive. We ate chicken wings w buffalo and barbecue sauces, my husband had the salad of the day with salmon, and I had a portobello mushroom wrap with chicken and a salad on the side. It was great! The salad dressings are homemade. We were very satisfied and would return with no hesitation. Thanks to the Yelpers who guided us here with their reviews!!

Fun time in the casual atmosphere at Freddy Valentine's in Spring Green Wi - near Taliesin, Frank Lloyd Wright, House on the Rock, Art Fair, American Players Theatre and Governor Dodge State Park. Check out the architecture of the old bank building and the excellent restoration that includes many of the original bank features. Want reservations - the vault room is the only reservable table in the restaurant. Owners, David and Jeanane visited our table to say hi and answer our curiousities about the original State Bank of Spring Green and their energy to launch a restaurant tribute to David's late father. I had the chicken club with a NightCall, smoked porter from Madson's Karben4 and she dined on a perfectly presented Turkey Reuben with sweet potato fries and a glass of her favorite Seven Falls. Everything was delicious and Jeanane's service was friendly and efficient as she bustled from behind the bar and table to table. It was a fun and filling visit. Stop by Freddy Valentine's the next time you're in the Spring Green - House on the Rock area , I think you'll be glad you did

Outstanding Rueben. Great old bank building. Excellent service. Quality food from scratch at great pricing. Can you please move to my neighborhood!

My wife and I were doing a road grip to view the fall Wisconsin colors and I was approaching Spring Green remembered having eaten a superior lunch after a round of golf at Freddy Valentines, so we stopped and had a great meal. We started with the crab cakes. Advanced to their tomato basil soup, witch was very good. We then ordered two of their sandwiches. A portabella grilled with tomato, onion, and great sauce. The other sandwich was a grillec salmon. Both were very good. Also had above average choice of tap beers and great wine selection. As good as the food was the wait staff was even better. Extremely knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. We will go back.
(4)Patrick O.
I had the Shepard's Pie and the wife enjoyed the Baby Back Ribs. What can I say, other than if they were closer home I would be 300 lbs. Awesome food, great staff. Big windows in back to see the clean kitchen making your order from scratch.
(5)Eric R.
Food. Really good food. I've been here a couple dozen times and we've explored the menu. Check the specials. The Double Deuce is my go to if I'm feeling "beefy". It's awesome. They also have some pretty amazing chicken wings. Good beer selection and full bar. Their martini menu is full of greatness. Nice dining area but we like sitting near or at the bar most of the time. You might have to wait for a table. That's the way it goes at good places.
(5)Pat W.
We enjoyed a special Mardi Gras dinner of seafood gumbo, chicken & fish jambalya followed by the signature bread pudding dessert. All were excellent.
(5)Misty W.
We went here for brunch over Easter weekend and it was extraordinary! Delicious food, great atmosphere and accommodating staff! Such a unique and full-of-character spot in an unexpected place! We highly recommend the drive to Spring Green for A meal in this establishment!
(5)P. M.
We popped in before an APT show and were presently surprised! The food was good, service timely, and ambiance very cool. We came long before the show started and had no problem getting a table, but it definitely got busy a few hours before showtime. Also, good beer/wine selection without being snooty!
(4)Gg O.
We had heard really good things about Freddy Valentines. The atmosphere is great, food was just o.k. Nachos were just a plate of chips & dip. Steak tacos were like Budig meat on a tortilla with flavorless slaw, aioli was mayo with cayenne . BUT it must have been dinner hour for the kitchen/wait staff...they were all eating in the bar area. Talk about mood/ambience killer, hope this is constructive .

So...a solid four stars on food...without a doubt. I rather like to curl up here for a couple of hours on a Sunday evening when I'm in town for a great nosh and a few fresh draft pints, whether it's Furthermore, New Glarus, or Cap. Brewers. Have appreciated seeing their menu evolve, especially with the changes to items that were well-praised, but not actually what they could be, and seeing the continued presence of truly great items, well-made & served. I find that the service in the bar is awesome, personable and, well, involved. The service elsewhere is...well...depends on the server. Have eaten here a few dozen times, always with prior notice...and service isn't as consistent (or aware and trained) as it should be at a restaurant serving this quality of food. A few months ago, I was here with a group of 10, with a prior reservation, and we were assigned one of the worst "I'm new and don't understand at all what I'm supposed to do" sorta-servers (I assume, because she was flipping incompetent - if she was a seasoned server, I'm really horrified.) We got attitude when one in the party requested a beer tasting, we got attitude about wanting water, not everyone had silverware available. Even after we were served actual food (several appetizer orders), there were folks with no flipping forks. Really??? My T-bone steak was served before I got my draft, which had been ordered a good twenty minutes before my food order was even taken. (Yeah, parse that: It took well over an hour to get my draft beer to table, and server was completely invisible / in the dark.) My draft arrived about 15 minutes after my bone-in steak, The steak was really, really good. Like, unbelievably good for a non-aged cut. And my selected draft was really good as well. But, Wtf??? I like this place. I like that they edit their menu. I like that they are beer snobs. I really like eating here, soup to nuts, as far as visiting a place I remember in other circumstances as a kiddo. But I do wish the service was more consistent, especially lately.
(4)Derick K.
Quite disappointing, considering the overall reviews. Waitress said the ribs were smoked, but were obviously baked in the oven. Corn bread was soggy and side of sweet potatoes were undercooked. Only positive was the beer selection, but the "pint" glasses were 12 oz. at best.
(2)Alice G.
They don't serve desserts, except for cookies in the summer. Otherwise no desserts. EVER! For a birthday celebration, don't count on a sweet with your coffee. When we went for a birthday celebration in the summer, they were out of cookies even. Don't understand why they couldn't have a few dessert offerings, even ice cream.
(2)Karen C.
Inside an amazing old bank, now a restaurant. Excellent food, affordable prices and a great waitress with an English accent! Enjoyed the fish tacos and soup and love to see re-purposed buildings.

Thanks yelpers for leading me to this place! After taking a meandering day trip west from Madison and not encountering anyplace promising to have lunch, we took a detour towards Spring Green. I opened my trusty yelp app on my phone and the next thing I knew our destination was set to FVPH. This place is very cool for many reasons. It's an old small town bank converted into a cozy and modern restaurant. I love walking into places and seeing and feeling cleanliness (the bar, restaurant and bathrooms were spotless)...Big ups! We started with super hot buffalo wings (#5 on a 1-5 scale of heat) and Asian (#3) both which come grilled and not fried. I love spicy food, so for me the #5 Buffalo were an obvious choice and they turned out to be the better of the two. The asian wings were still very tasty though. Homemade ranch and blue cheese dressing accompanied the wings, and while neither were out of this world; they didn't disappoint. In all, It really did not matter though because the buffalo wings were some of the best I've ever had, no joke. Enjoying the atmosphere, we ended up staying for about 4 hours and the bartenders and staff were super friendly and attentive. After the wings, we decided to try the grilled Caesar salad, mac & cheese and double deuce burger. The caesar is grilled!?! which gave the greens a very smokey and unique flavor. It was really BIG so I don't recommend getting this salad as an appetizer because it's also very rich and filling. The mac n' cheese was decent but kind of forgettable. The double deuce burger is a different story. This is a man-wich burger. It was delicious! It's a 1/2lb patty, piled with a 1/2lb of slow cooked smoked brisket and homemade bbq sauce w/ fries. I will be making the trip back for the burger alone! Also, I need to mention that the prices are super reasonable considering the quality of the food and the somewhat contemporary ambiance. If this place were in Madison I'd give it 4/5 stars but it's not. It's hard to find places like this in small towns and for that I think it deserves 5. I look forward to making another day trip out there and I think you'll feel the same way if and when you do the same. Cheers!
(5)Chris H.
Solid four stars on all counts. Utterly cool space (former small town bank building) put to great use with repurposed teller windows and restored detailed moldings, vaults, etc. Very warm service at the bar and table. Knowledgable about (many) local ingredients and beers. Fantastic fries and shepherd's pie. Many good local beers, too. Definitely worth a trip from Dodgeville for a change of pace in the winter or an evening drive in the summer!
(4)Kat M.
This place is really friendly in general. Our server was very nice without being overly familiar. The food was so, so good! I had the homemade chicken and dumpling soup, farmer salad, & sweet potato fries. My husband had the ribs. All of it was outstanding. The drinks were really well done, too. Husband had a margarita. They don't use nasty pre-made mix for the margaritas, thank goodness. I had a delicious blueberry pomegranate sangria! Not my usual cocktail but I felt like trying something different. It wasn't cloying. It was just right. Anyway, will definitely make a trip back to this restaurant.
(4)Sandy M.
Great atmosphere. Used to be a bank and they refurbished the bank teller counter for the bar and pub tables. Friendly and attentive waitstaff. The food was great!
(4)Jonathan B.
I really enjoyed my dinner at Freddy Valentine's. The restaurant is located in an old bank building from 1900. The bar area is situated where the lobby once stood and the dining room is in the old vault. The beer selection is fantastic. The menu is diverse and my meal was made from mostly local ingredients and was very tasty. Overall, FV's is a unique experience in this part of Wisconsin. There were some issues with the service - forgetting to bring/refill water, not offering glasses for beverages, etc. These were minimal compared with the overall experience though.
(4)Ccwriter V.
Stopped in for dinner before a performance at APT. We also were seated before projected time. Gave us more time to savor the wonderful food. Fish tacos were fresh and flavorful. Crab cakes seemed flat and not as tasty as the last time we visited. Overall, this is a great place. Nice choice of wines and beers.
(5)Bill S.
Great salad. Great fries. Table too close to kitchen. Beautiful old building. Reasonable prices. A bit too much attitude.
(4)George K.
Good food, well prepared, and fast friendly service. Plus a selection of local craft beers! Inside is an attractive former bank with the original counters. Outside seating is quiet, although not a great view. Jefferson Street is probably never busy enough to be annoying. I hope they make enough money during the American Player's Theater season to carry them through the winter, when I doubt anyone comes to Spring Green.
(5)Dan G.
We stopped here on a whim, while vacationing in Spring Green. We were looking for good pub food and drink and this place satisfied both. We took a seat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender. They had some local brews on tap I started with Furthermore Beer's Full Thicket a DIPA. The bartender explained that the recipes and the creation of the beer is made down the street and then is brewed in Milwaukee by Miller. It was a handsome DIPA. The other local brew I had was Lake Louie's Warped Speed Scotch Ale, nice and woody with a heck of a kick. This was brewed in the town over in Arena. The new wife had their house made Bloody Mary. The bartender went on and told us the million ingredients that went into it. I love a bartender who is that knowledgeable. As for the food they had usual pub fare burgers, wraps, sandwiches, and salads. I got the Chip and Fishwich which is a clever way of saying a fried fish sandwich. It was really good. Some big pieces of beer battered fish with tarter sauce and on a good roll. It went well with the beers. The lady got the Triple Decker Grilled Cheese. I was jealous of her. A huge sandwich with cheddar, Gouda, and Munster. This sandwich is the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. It is Wisconsin on sandwich. Just plain awesome. Overall, this is a hell of a find in the area and worth a stop if you are looking for some good local brews. I will be back. Friendly people, good food, and dirt cheap. Wisconsin pub at its best!
(4)Beth D.
We came here after finding FV's on yelp. The menu looked good, they had options that my kids liked, and they had vegetarian entrees. The restaurant itself is nice. Considering the alternatives in the area, it is a welcome change. Nice atmosphere, nice decor, and the staff was friendly and helpful. The food was fantastic - each of our entrees was above expectations. The only drawbacks were that they were out of the salad that I wanted, and the food took a long, long time to come out of the kitchen. They did keep us informed, but it isn't clear what the deal was.
(4)Steve H.
A very good choice for a broad range of occasions. We took the kids on a Sunday night during a short trip to Spring Green, House on the Rock and Tower Hill State Park. While the atmosphere and decor are quite nice, it's casual enough for a family dressed for camping. Three of us had burgers -- my 10-year-old son (going on 14) had the Double Deuce, which was more than enough for his appetite and tasty enough that it jolted him out of his moody spell for the rest of the night. Having read the menu, he was impressed with the quality of the beef and mentioned Angus cattle several times on the remainder of the trip. All our burgers were cooked as we ordered them (mine medium, the others well). I had the Public Burger, and the Nueske's bacon was as good as always. Ingredients were of high quality and local/regional origin, and our food was put together with care and proper balance -- not too much horseradish sauce on mine, so that the local gouda wasn't overwhelmed. Buns were nicely crisped but soft and fresh on the inside. My 5-year-old daughter, who is not normally a burger fan, was quite happy with her mini-burgers, which is enough to impress the rest of us. Fries were great, including the sweet-potato fries I had. My wife thoroughly enjoyed her portobello wrap and dispensed with her usual quibbles about quality that her thriftiness seems to bring out as soon as she looks at menu prices (here, they're not out of line at all). I had the Proper, an English ale from local brewer Furthermore. I'm not an expert, but it was good and there's a fairly good-sized selection of craft brews from around the state, along with some well-known imports. Or you can have Pabst, as well as some of those who shall remain unnamed. Some of the tables in the back room, by the kitchen, might be a little close together for some folks, but there are several rooms that offer a bit more privacy or at least distance if you're on a date or dressing up a bit more and don't want to be around lively, grungy families like mine. I wan't a big fan of the large mirror behind our table that had me looking directly into the kitchen, but we were far enough away that it wasn't a major aggravation. The outdoor patio looked very inviting during nice weather. Overall ambiance indoors wasn't loud or distracting to us, and the acoustics didn't have me worrying as much about my loud family as I normally do. Seemed just right despite some coziness in our dining room. Service was acceptable -- a young woman who was nice enough and tried to be helpful on unrelated questions. She did a good job with what she was supposed to do. There was free wi-fi, which we needed to check something on a tablet. The bar had just enough elegance to appear fancy without being intimidating. It had a couple of televisions with sports showing. All in all, Freddy Valentine's seems to provide an excellent balance of the casual and the slightly upscale, and I suspect with its reasonable prices and excellent local emphasis it keeps both residents and tourists happy.
(4)Mike M.
Awesome food - fish and chips were awesome, kids had the sweet potato fries and our friends did the Shepherd Pie. All great!
(5)Chris B.
Great food supplemented by a fantastic local beer list, both on tap and in bottles. Great location in an old bank building. Indoor and outdoor seating. Great time and would go back if ever back in the area.
(5)GC R.
Have eaten many lunches here-excellent burgers- and fries -creative specials--prompt table service. Have always enjoyed food and sampling beers. On two occasions, owner has encouraged a "chocolate" beer as a popular dark ale. In fact, have overheard him pitching this brand to nearly every table--.on multiple visits--for some reason, even though menu is full of choices. Took one sip --did not care for it at all, too strong. Ordered something else--chocolate beer glass not removed from table as if to say "you're paying for it anyway" --which is OK--but never an apology or any recognition of charging $5 for a bad experience. Mentioned we were locals and had been there many times--left feeling ripped off a bit-like we were trying to get away with something. Felt a bit unappreciated as return patrons. Overall, though, the food and ambiance are very enjoyable--would be good to turn down the heat registers in bar area in winter, as one feels almost like a burger on the grill --even several seats away.
(4)Mike S.
Home away from home. Super food, friendly service. Try the manhattan and also the ribs, you won't be disappointed.
(5)John M.
We'd been hearing nice things from friends about Freddy Valentine's so as it isn't too far from our home we stopped on a Saturday evening about 6:30 without a reservation. We thought we might be earlier but it was very busy and there was a wait for a table for two. About 20 minutes. Not to worry there were comfortable stools at the bar where we could have a local beer on tap. The decor is nice with stylish round wood bar tables in the front bar area and regular tables in the two dining rooms. AS we sipped our beers we looked over the menu and learn that the food is all prepared in house and they try to use as much local ingredients as possible. In about 20 minutes we were offered a table in the front room and as it wasn't too noisy and the stools were comfortable we said yes. Our waiter, Jason, was right there and very attentive throughout the meal. There was an evening special of lamb chops but I was too late. They were out. So I ordered the Salmon Pot Pie and my dining companion ordered a Public Burger with a side of Sweet Potato fries. We did not have a long wait for our food though it was so busy. My pot pie was not a double crust pie but a very large piece of well cooked Salmon on top of cream sauce with potatoes and other vegetables. It was topped with a wedge of phyllo type pastry. It was very good and the portions were generous. The Public Burger (half pound burger with horseradish, bacon, cheese) was nicely done but the star were the sweet potato fries. I will definitely go back just to have them with my favorite adult beverage. Cut lengthwise they were cooked just right with coarse salt on top. It is really nice to know there is local restaurant we can take our "city" friends that's a nice blend of local casual style, great service, and very good food. We'll be back.
(4)Kim N.
Updating, as I recently enjoyed a great dinner here. The salmon pot pie is great. Someone else described it well on here, with the phyllo wedge being served on the side. Taste was outstanding and the salmon was perfectly seasoned and juicy. Friends had the veggie enchilladas, and specials of pork chop and crawfish etouffee. The pork chop sounded like the standout of the night. Only two downsides were a well done bottom on the biscuit (which was otherwise great) and a little slow service getting our check. I can easily forgive those. It was otherwise good service and we very much enjoyed our meal. I really hope this place makes it. Judging by the busy weekends in the dead of winter, it's going to be the "go to" spot for summer APT dining and I expect we'll see it get some great press. Also, they have Founder's Breakfast Stout on tap, which I can't get anywhere else nearby, so I love them for that alone.
(4)Jd G.
Great pub food, drink and atmosphere
(4)Joe P.
Great atmosphere, great food and great service. The interior trim is very well done to the period of the building and lends a great atmosphere for dining and sitting at the bar. The food was very good. There is obvious skill and experience in the kitchen. The service was great. We had to wait about a half hour but we were updated regularly on the status and were able to sit at the bar and have a beer. The waitress service was good as well. There are many craft beers to choose from, too. This is a great place for families, groups or couples. This out does most restaurants in bigger cities.

Awesome place, great welcoming ambiance, friendly, knowledgeable staff, fresh, local, made from scratch food, and Old Speckled Hen to boot. We will go back for sure.

This place is in a National Historic Landmark old Bank building. The building is stunning. Now for the food part - Freddy has anything you want to drink. The owners are here every day. The head chef is really tuned into creative offerings created with some locally sourced foods. We will never go near Spring Green again without stopping here. What a treat for visitors and locals to finally have a place like this!

Excellent menu!! I've come here many times and have truly enjoyed every choice. Check out the specials from the board. Nice selection of craft beers on tap and I hear they mix a great lemon-drop martini.

Called a month ahead for a large group. Was told to call back the day of our visit. We did, and were told twice to call back later. Called again at 5 for a 6:30 seating, came down, and were told we needed to wait for 45 minutes. Clearly can't get their act together.

We first dined on 8/31 having fish and chips and the shepherd's pie. Both of them were excellent and the staff was fantastic. It was so good we went back on 9/2 and tried the BBQ brisket, salmon pot pie, black bean burger, and chicken club sandwich. Again the food was excellent and the service great, we even got to dine in the vault (the building is an old bank). We highly recommend this restaurant.
